I think that some of the trails need to marked a little wider, such as the wall trail is kind of hard to see on the map, as well as BYS as a dotted line is also hard to see

How long till it's in paper form to hand out?

Looks good! I'd like to see a circle around the "P" and the "P" in bolder font and "P" for parking added to the legend.

It prints out pretty well, just slightly small on 8.5x 11 paper and it wlooks a little better on photo paper too.

save the picture, use a photo program and flip the canvas to landscape and stretch to fit paper. prints out nice full size on 8.5x11

Very nice map, KarlVP!
Oh, new forum member here. I've been getting more interested in the Reiter Trails area since I've been hearing about some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that you all have been doing from the PNW's Region 1 meetings (I'm a Region 1 delegate from the Seattle Jeep Club).
Very good work and as a Jeeper my thanks for everyone's tremendous efforts at RTW! Things look like they're headed in the right directions.
Anyways, my friend's and I have been doing our own GPS mapping and I've been compiling the data into a TOPO! file with the eventual goal of producing a printable map.
I'm wondering if we might exchange .tpo data files?
The stuff I have has the smaller side trails not on your map (such as toward the top of sand hill, and the routes parallelling the powerline trail toward the rock wall) besides the makin Index and Lake Isabel trails. And yours has some of the more larger trails I haven't been on or mapped yet. Plus the trail names (cool, love the names).
Here's what I've been working on so far:
http://homepage.mac.com/jgreening/.Pictures/Photo%20Album%20Pictures/2007-10-15%2017.26.31%20-0700/Image-0DCD65A47B7D11DC.jpg
The text, numbers, title, legend box, and red lines were done in photoshop. The rotues are color coded simply as black for pavement, blue for gravel, and green for 4x4 routes.
So, how about it, would anyone want to exchange GPS data?
Also, in the name of posterity, completness, and thoroughness does anyone have GPS data for the many motorbike trails and possibly the few hiking trails. I don't ride but it might be nice to have a complete map of all the trails.
Anyways. . . again, good work!

This would be a great map to give to the DNR so they have an idea of the size of reiter.
but wait. i have a question.
if your under the power lines and looking down 2 trail heads, how do you know which trail is which on the map?

If ya ask me, Karl gets a lot of credit. Hes one of the most active members in the wheeling community. Hes the one thats really been pushing this map idea, and for good reason. Don't fault him just because he doesn't have the right software or whatever. Cheers to you all!!!!
yeah we give him lots of credit If it was his. We've had this same map for years tried to give it to them they just give us that yeah okay thanks look and then ask dnr (who also has a copy) for a map of reiter. Whatever guys good luck with the whore4x4 supplied map oh yeah sure looks the same

I got the GPS data from bobby who got it from Jason and Kelley. One of the folks on the Naxja board actually put it together. If you saw the previous threads regarding this map, I didn't ever claim that it was my own work.
I'm still working on it with rooney power. We have to add some trails and I am talking with lupinsea via e-mail to exchange GPS data so we can get a nice topo map made.
You folks bitch too much. I'm just trying to collaborate efforts and get a nice fawking map done.

This is one reason that as Reiter develops over time it would be helpful to have trail markers that correspond to a well annotated and noted trail map. Sort of like having street signs posted at intersections. It's done in other place and I don't see any reason it can't be done at Reiter. But one of the first tasks, I think, is to catalog (map) the trails and routes that are there. Once that's done, names (and trail numbers?) can be assigned. Then some kind of sign post made and installed at the trail heads and intersections.
It'll take time.
OF course it looks the same. They are the same trails. In the same places.
well if it's the gps data that you collected then cool but it sure don't look any different at all from the one we have been giving out

yes in fact that is OUR data. WE went out and got that data so before you go running your mouth you should make sure you know what your talking about. And like Karl said, of course it looks the same...it's the same trails and the trails certainly haven't moved

As Karl said-- lets colaberate on this and quit bitching--gets nobody nowhere..
As for the GPS data--if you have the same trail and run down it gathering GPS data---- do you think its going to be any different?

ok so im the guy that put this map together and i used my own gps data.
Karl and i are trying to plan a time when we can go get the rest of the data for these trails.
I make all the changes that people have mentioned and post a new one in a while.
That was the whole point of it, save the pic, make it fit the whole page in a word document and print the thing.
If ya got any suggestions, tell me.
The only problem with the WHORE map is its about 3" X 3"..... Kinda hard to read, let alone print out...
Not bashing on your guys map..

the whoremap is not electronic and useless for the big picture. you cannot add photo features and hyperlinks etc
its just a jpgpicture.
great work karl and id say its only ten percent done...
in fact the whore board took a dump a while back and lost your map. i had previously asked rico if we could copy thier map to see if we could run with that and found it to be a JPEG useless to us. but then when the whore board crashed and rico asked me if i still had the copy i gladly provided it back. so as convoluted as it might sound the current map on the whore was reprovided by RTW....really we have no reason to bicker about this. its a work in progress.

Just did a little bit more mapping this weekend. Reiter is getting fun with all the water and rain coming down. I think I can post the latest .tpo map file as a .zip archive to this forum as an attachment if people want.
Here is what I have.
http://homepage.mac.com/jgreening/.Pictures/Photo%20Album%20Pictures/2007-11-19%2000.27.55%20-0800/Image-71F4C43B967711DC.jpg
Route LEGEND
Black = Paved roads
Blue = Gravel roads
Green = 4x4 Jeep trails
On the map posted at the start of this thread there is a spur 4x4 trail indicated at the top of the Lake Isabel Trail that heads partway toward the lake. Try as we might we couldn't find it Saturday. We did, however, hike all the way up to the lake and discovered another abandoned mine part way up the big waterfall and to the side. Very cool area up at the top and I was surprised to find as much "development" with log seating around camp fires (two sites) and a water level observation structure. Unfortunately, the lake was covered in mist so I couldn't see up the valley there.
Comparing what I have available to the original thread posted map (http://reitertrailwatch.org/forum/showpost.php?p=76&postcount=1) I'm not sure the Worms Butt trail actually goes where it's indicated. Reiter Pond is a substantial body of water and the brown trail appears to cut right across it. Again, the route we took circumnavigated the pond.
Photos from the trip are available here. (http://homepage.mac.com/jgreening/offroading/PhotoAlbum229.html)

if i get up there next month and start driving around. you can use old garmin gpsV info right. i haven't played with the downloading software in years... but i can actually hook it up to my dad's comp and download it now. my comp requires a usb adapter cable that i don't have.

I think so. . .
A friend of mine also found an on-line GPS data converter (http://gpsvisualizer.com/gpsbabel/) to convert between various data formats. Basically just select the input file format, the output format, browse for your GPS file, click a few options and hit the convert button.
If it's a Garmin GPS V the data is probably in Garmin's own format. I think. Still new to GPS stuff myself.

Is the map done yet?

Um. . . not the one I'm working on.
I added two more trails on the SE area, both pretty easy.
Then found more trail leads I'd like to go back and record. I "think" I have one more long day before I'm done (unless there are yet more areas). Then I can put the map together.

The current map as of December 16, 2007.

Trail 12 and a jog on trail 14 at the southern end was added this last weekend. I think I'm getting close to getting all the trails mapped. If anyone knows of routes I'm forgetting or missing please let me know. Also, for the hard to find or un-mapped stuff I wouldn't mind a guide some time if anyone is up for it.
Also, help with trail names would be great. A new thread to talk about that is the Map Naming Thread. (http://reitertrailwatch.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53)
Thanks.
